While the mountains of Western North Carolina are known for their lush greenery, the cities, towns and urban centers are rapidly losing tree canopy to development. Magnificent trees that may have started their lives 100 to 200 years ago are being threatened. We can never replace one of these ancient trees and the many benefits they provide.
You can help protect trees by supporting the work of the GreenWorks Treasured Tree Program. Through the work of dedicated volunteers, significant trees in Buncombe County are being identified and recognized as Treasured Trees. Once a nominated tree is approved, the committee delivers a Treasured Tree plaque that goes on the tree and a certificate to the property owner. Our hope is that these special trees are honored and protected for generations to come.
Your donation will help cover the costs of printing and mounting the metal plaques, spreading the word about the Treasured Trees Program and printing certificates.
Please specify whether your donation is to support Treasured Trees in Asheville, the Swannanoa Valley, including Black Mountain, or for Buncombe County in general.
