Join us for a special evening with Crystal Dreisbach, innovator and revolutionary founder of Don't Waste Durham and Green To Go, as part of GreenWorks' kickoff to our Mind Your Plastic May plastic reduction campaign. This event will take place immediately after our quarterly Plastics Reduction Task Force meeting, where special guest Hilary Drake of Mind Your Plastic will join Crystal in a hands-on workshop to discuss and develop next steps for Asheville and WNC communities. Crystal will also be our keynote speaker for GreenWorks' very special fundraising event Awards & Trashion Show the following evening (April 27 @6-9PM).

Crystal will discuss how headlines about an ill-fated global recycling industry, our dwindling landfill space, and oceans full of microplastics are finally jolting us into awareness: our society is stone-cold addicted to disposable plastics. Discussing and taking action toward a circular reuse economy has never been more timely or relevant. As Founder and Executive Director of Don’t Waste Durham, Crystal will discuss starting GreenToGo reusable takeout container service in Durham, NC and legislating a city-wide reduction in Styrofoam and plastic bags. She'll fill you in on how Don’t Waste Durham helps other cities start their own reuse systems. Finally, Crystal will share leading-edge thinking around behavior change in sustainability and reveal the two key ingredients to disrupting our take-and-trash status quo.

All proceeds for these events go directly to Asheville GreenWorks' critical work in the area of plastic reduction, including our citizen-led Plastics Reduction Task Force, a forthcoming Go Easy Guide - an online resource to help business owners find affordable solutions to waste problems, a broad community awareness & education campaign, and furthering innovative partnerships with businesses and communities throughout the area.
